Introduction

All NGOs seeking CSR funds and the CSR implementing agencies need to file Form CSR-1. By filing this form, the social organization or agency gets registered with the Central Government and fulfils the eligibility to get CSR funds.

Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has mandated filing of form CSR-1 by all the implementing entities intending to undertake CSR activities for all CSR projects effective from 1st April 2021. A unique CSR Registration Number shall be generated for all entities submitting Form CSR-1.

What is Form CSR-1?

Form CSR-1 or “eForm CSR-1” is a registration form for getting CSR funding. The purpose of eForm is  “Registration of Entities for undertaking CSR activities”. Form CSR-1 shall be signed and submitted electronically by the entity.

The form is required to be verified digitally by a practising professional like CA or a CS, or a CMA. All entities who are intending to undertake CSR projects have to file this Form on the MCA portal.

Some of the benefits of CSR-1 registration are:

  • Ease in undertaking CSR activities

  • Entitled to receive Grants & Donation from companies

Types of NGOs eligible for CSR-1 registration

NGOs that are eligible to file Form CSR-1 on MCA Portal for getting CSR Funding are as follows:

  • A company established under section 8 of the Act, or a registered public trust or a registered society, registered under section 12A and 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961, established by the company, either singly or along with any other company.

  • A company established under section 8 of the Act or a registered trust or a registered society, established by the Central Government or State Government.

  • Any entity established under an Act of Parliament or a State legislature.

  • A company established under section 8 of the Act, or a registered public trust or a registered society, registered under section 12A and 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961, and has an established track record of at least three years in undertaking similar activities.

Documents Required for CSR-1 Registration

The documents required to upload for CSR-1 Registration is as follows:

  • Copy of the registration certificate

  • Trust Deed in case of a registered Trust

  • Memorandum in case of a registered Society

  • Copy of the PAN of the NGO/Section 8 Company with Form CSR-1

  • DIN/PAN of the Director, Trustee, Secretary, etc. of the organization

  • Copy of the Resolution authorizing the person by the entity with Resolution number and date of the resolution

  • DSC of the Authorised Person

Processing Type

The eForm will be processed in STP mode.

Acknowledgement and CSR Registration Number

When an eForm is successfully processed, an acknowledgement of the same is sent to the user in the form of an email to the email id of the entity. Further, a digitally signed approval letter along with CSR Registration number with Format CSRXXXXXXXX where X represents system generated unique sequential number will be sent to the FO User as well as the email ID of the entity as entered in the eform.
