7 Years Rigorous Imprisonment to Former Minister Jharkhand Govt in a Disproportionate Assets Case

The Special Judge, CBI Cases, Ranchi has sentenced Shri Anosh Ekka, former Minister in Government of Jharkhand and six private persons - Smt. Menon Ekka(wife of the former Minister); Shri Gidyon Ekka; Shri Deepak Lakra; Shri Jaykant Bara; Roshan Minz and Shri Ibrahim Ekka, all to undergo seven years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs.50 lakh each in a Disproportionate Assets case. The Court further directed CBI to start proceedings for confiscating/forfeiture of the disproportionate assets of the convicts.

CBI had registered the case against the accused on the allegations of possession of Disproportionate Assets to the tune of Rs.16.82 crore(approx) during the period 10.03.2005 to 31.03.2009. After thorough investigation, a chargesheet was filed. Smt. Menon Ekka, Shri Gidyon Ekka, Shri Deepak Lakra, Shri Jaykant Bara, Shri Roshan Minz and Shri Ibrahim Ekka were held guilty for abetment in the crime.
